In an effort to ensure the utmost positive experience for our dancer’s & families we split our dancers into 3 separate shows for the Showcase. Dancers with only 1 class will only perform in 1 show. Dancers with multiple routines may participate in 1 or more shows depending on the age of their classes.

Your dancer’s participation in which of the following 3 Showcases is based purely upon age. This ensures the Showcase is an exciting & positive experience for everyone. Note: family-friendly length and content!

  1. Our first show consists of Pre-school classes ages 3/4 yrs.
  2. Our second show consists of Junior level dancers ages 5-7 yrs.
  3. Our third show includes all remaining dancers & will run approximately two hours; includes an intermission.

Your dancer will get a turn on stage with their class, and all performers are a part of the special Finale routine at the end of the show!

This includes their Stage Rehearsal, media package for the event (live wide angle video & action photography), as well as a commemorative medallion to mark the special occasion & more. This fee is $50.00 per child, will be processed on April 15th, and is non-refundable. Specifics will be included on your Year-End Showcase newsletter.

Seating Seating Seating

Seating is on a first-come basis, and fire regulations dictate that children 3 years of age and older require their own seat and may not sit on a parent’s lap. If attending more that one show with multiple dancers please note additional family members do need to fully exit the theatre with all of their belongings & join the line for the next shows. In fairness to all, families are not able to save seats between shows.

Show-Specific Tickets: If your dancer is performing in multiple shows, a separate ticket is required for each individual performance you attend.

Automatic Billing: Please note that if a ticket is not purchased for a Showcase in which your dancer performs, the ticket cost will be automatically charged to your MDA parent portal account.

All About Costumes

An important element in our Year-End Showcase is the costumes that add color, vibrancy, and beauty to the stage.

We ask if minor costume alterations need to be made that perhaps a parent, neighbor or friend can make these alterations for you as there has been no added charge with which to cover the cost of a seamstress.

Costumes will be given out in class to dancers in April/May.

Mandatory Parent Meeting for costume release *date and time tba

We are holding a brief meeting for parents of dancers in the following classes before their costumes will be released:

  • Starlettes
  • Budding Ballerina
  • Ballet/Jazz Combo (50-minute classes)
  • Mini level classes
  • Beginner Acro

Why Attend?

This meeting is mandatory for all families new to MDA. We want to ensure you and your dancer have the best possible experience leading up to the big day!

Please Note: Costumes will be released only after a parent or guardian has attended this meeting.

Please review your specific class details and come prepared with any questions you may have regarding the upcoming performance.

Digital Photos Videos Photos & Videos

MDA is using the services of both a professional video company as well as a professional photographer to capture each dance performed at the theatre! You will receive an online link to both photos and video which you can share with family! All dancers share equally in the cost, which is included in your participation fee. In addition to MDA providing both professional photos and videos, we encourage parents to capture their dancer on stage, too, with their on cameras/phones. This further helps to ensure that each family captures any photo and/or video that we may inadvertently miss.

Professional VIDEOS aim to capture the entire group performing on stage. There are no closeups or zooming in on individual dancers, instead the entire routine is recorded. If you would like to zoom in on your child only/specifically please plan to record this with your own device.

Professional ACTION PHOTOS taken from the centre of the theatre aim to capture the entire group performing on stage. There are limited closeups and zooming in on individual dancers, instead the entire group is aimed to be captured while in action/movement re: no still shots. If you would like to zoom in on your child only/specifically please plan to do this with your own device. Keep in mind our youngest of dancers may look to their instructor for guidance on stage so heads maybe turned to the side so that they can follow along.

If in addition to the above services you will have the option of a Solo photo of your child as another wonderful keepsake. Sign-up details will be shared in case this may be of interest to you.

Our Commitment to You Your Dancer

We are committed to making your child’s experience the best it possibly can be!

  1. You can order a beautifully wrapped rose to gift to your child following their Showcase performance.
  2. Help us to say a big thank you to our amazing teachers! Teacher appreciation donation option will be made available to you.
  3. Please volunteer to help make the show the best it can be. We rely on parent participation and help in order to run the show and the practice rehearsal run smoothly.

The Year-End Showcase is a celebration of the dancers’ hard work, progress and enjoyment of dance and we look forward to seeing our dancers shine on the stage💖

Important F.A.Q.s for you

Why Rockpointe Theatre for the Showcase?

We put much time & care into choosing the perfect location for our Year-end show for our dancers. There are so many reasons why we choose this venue. We do choose it because we believe it offers the best possible experience for our dancers & families. Here are a few of the main reasons we choose this venue:

1) Theatre space is extremely difficult to get in Calgary given the # of venues available & the demand for spaces especially during this busy time of year. Given this factor venues in Calgary such as the Jubilee, Jack Singer Concert Hall, Theatre Calgary etc are incredibly expensive to rent which in turn would then increase your ticket price from $25.00 per person to between $45.00 – $100.00 per person. That is the true cost of using a theatre in Calgary.

2) With our location we are also able to use a 3rd party ticketing company instead of Ticketmaster in which service fees can be between $10.00 – $15.00 per ticket further increasing your cost to attend the event. We keep these fees at a minimum with the company we use.

3) Parking is free at this venue so once again we are looking to pass these saving along to you & not have you having to pay for parking downtown Calgary at an additional fee.

4) The space provided from lobby space, to change rooms to theatre space allows for a comfortable experience for our dancers so they have adequate room to wait backstage for their routine to perform as well as comfortable seating for our guests. Downtown theatre are designed for professional theatre companies not these types of events resulting in limited change room space often in the basement of the building.

5) Lastly, a weekend date is incredibly important for us as we have many families with younger children. Given it is also grad season with other locations we would be limited to a weekday evening show beginning at 6:00/6:30 pm with an 8:30/9:00 pm finish which we simply feel is just too late for out little ones.

We hope you will agree this is a logical & economical choice for all of our dancers/families & thank you for your support in our decision.
