Dance Classes in Calgary SE
What Is Acro Dance?
Acro Dance combines dance technique with acrobatic elements such as cartwheels, walkovers, and aerials, performed to music as part of a choreographed routine. Unlike gymnastics, which is judged as a sport on athletic execution, Acro is performance-driven: the goal is artistic expression through movement, with acrobatic skills woven into choreography. Both disciplines build strength and flexibility, but Acro Dance also develops stage presence, musicality and performance.
Who Is Acro For?
Beginner Acro at MDA is designed for dancers aged 5-7 years. No prior gymnastics or danceexperience is required. Your dancer will be placed in the level that matches their age, and theprogram streams through Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 and above, also with Competitive opportunities. Younger children aged 3 to 4 can experience introductory acrobatic movement through some of MDA’s combo classes, building the foundations they will carry into stand alone Acro when they are ready.

Our Acro Program at MDA
MDA’s Acro program follows the Acrobatics Arts syllabus, a structured and progressive curriculum recognized internationally across Canada and beyond. The syllabus sequences skills carefully, so your dancer is never asked to attempt something before the foundational strength and technique are in place. Classes cover flexibility, core strength, balance, and the acrobatic skills specific to each level.
As your dancer advances, Acro training integrates increasingly with dance technique. Students perform acrobatic skills within choreographed sequences and routines, developing musicality alongside physical ability. MDA’s Acro students work toward the Year-End Showcase a full performance experience that builds focus, stage presence, and the self-esteem that comes from achieving something meaningful in front of an audience.
Safety and Qualified Instruction
Safety is central to how MDA approaches Acro. The Acrobatics Arts syllabus introduces each skill only after the prerequisite strength, flexibility, and technique are established, so your dancer is never rushed through the curriculum. MDA’s Acro instructors are trained and qualified to deliver this curriculum, with the experience to make each progression both challenging and achievable for young dancers.

Why Choose MDA for Acro?
01
A Structured, Internationally Recognized Curriculum
The Acrobatics Arts syllabus gives your dancer’s training a clear structure: each skill builds on the last, and progression is earned rather than assumed. This is a curriculum developed and refined by Acro specialists and used by qualified instructors internationally. It means your dancer is learning Acro in the right order, at the right pace.
02
Individualized Attention in Every Class
Class sizes at MDA are kept intentional, so every dancer gets real attention. In Acro, where individual skill development and safety both depend on proper technique, that attention matters. Your dancer will be seen and supported in every class, whether they are attempting a skill for the first time or refining what they need to reach the next level. For dancers who are naturally cautious about new physical challenges, the smaller class environment gives them room to build confidence at their own pace. Each class also includes an assistant to further support the dancers as needed.
03
Instructors Who Know Acro and Love to Teach It
MDA’s Acro instructors are qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic about what they teach. They deliver the Acrobatics Arts curriculum in a way that is progressive, safe, and rewarding for young dancers, building the kind of positive relationship with physical challenge that carries into every area of your dancer’s development.
